IRISH DANCE BETTER THAN EVER!

Staying Happy when Unable to Dance and Posture – Sydnee

Hi Simone, I actually have 2 questions to ask you. I am currently holding off from dance for a few weeks because of a stress fracture in my foot. I am supposed to be off of it for 4-6 weeks, but I am still doing a lot of stretching and strengthening to keep my body going. Now, I know this part is going to to sound a bit weird, but I seem to feel very bored and something like depressed. Do you have any tips on what to do or how to fix this? My second question for when I get back to dancing… How do you keep you posture so perfect while dancing? I have trouble mostly with my shoulders, but have been improving little by little. Thanks! Submitted by Sydnee E.

Hi Sydnee! Sorry it took so long to get back to you ack! I totally get the depressed and bored part–I’m still unable to dance for about another week, and that’s the last thing I want to have to do right now lol! Anyway, HAND DANCING works extremely well. I know it sounds stupid but it helps. Also, try watching videos of your favorite Irish dancers. Try this (click here)for some ideas.
Next up, posture. I have a few tips for posture. One is to face your knuckles forward, like a magnet is drawing them to the front. Keep them “magnetized” there. Next, try to touch your shoulder blades in the back. It should feel like a pinch in the middle if you do it right. Set little checkpoints in your dances where you make sure you are pinching your blades and your knuckles are forward. Last but not least, squeeze your core! It seriously helps anything. Good luck!
